INTELLIGENT AUTOMATIC OBJECT DIMENSION MEASUREMENT SYSTEM

Optimizing operations regarding Warehouse and Distribution Management requires the existence of the items' physical characteristics (dimensions, volume, weight and photo), a requirement that many times constitutes a time-consuming and hard process, especially in cases that the company has to measure, in a conventional way, the dimensions of thousands of objects and, then, to enter them in the system. Typing the items' dimensions in the system is a source of errors entailing side effects on the subsequent operations of the supply chain automation.

The aberon DATA COLLECTOR system consists of three sensors placed on the three axes of a three-sided device. The device is connected to a work station, where the aberon WMS application functions, and is connected to a barcode scanner.

The system's functioning is simple:
The operator scans the item using the barcode scanner that is connected to the work station and, then, simply places the object at the beginning of the three-sided device's axes. If the item has no barcode, then the operator selects it from the items' search list.




By scanning the item's barcode, aberon identifies the items using the table of items in the database and, by placing the item at the beginning of the three-sided device's axes, the system, at a fraction of a second, measures, using the sensors, the object's dimensions and enters them in the aberon WMS database. The item's volume is automatically calculated and updated in the database. Moreover, a photo of the object is taken and saved in the items' photo list.

The object's dimensions that are automatically measured by the system regard the box dimensions of the object, namely those of an ideal minimum parallelepiped encompassing the object.
